Dreams and sandtray can be considered cousins, each drawing from the wisdom of our non-verbal, right hemisphere.  In this workshop, each person will explore a dream using the magic of sandtray and the methodology of Gestalt therapy. In Gestalt dream work, each part of the dream represents an aspect of the dreamer. The addition of sandtray provides a 3 dimensional portrayal and further enlivens the dream.

WORK TOWARD BECOMING A REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST

Enlivening  Dreams:  Applying Sandtray and Gestalt Therapy to Dreamwork for Play and Talk Therapists

During the training, participants will first write their dream, then create it in their individual sandtray.  This process will bring the dream to life, providing the opportunity for the dreamer to explore the story, the dramas, the dichotomies and metaphors.  The trainer will process each tray in turn and demonstrate Gestalt Therapy interventions, which may include creative experiments such as speaking in the voice of the dream and its many parts and thus deepen the meaning of the dream.

This process is very useful with both adolescents and adults, encouraging them to participate experientially in a creative play therapy experience in which challenging issues can surface in a non-threatening manner.
