WORK TOWARD BECOMING A REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST

This course is designed for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs, pre-licensed associates and graduate mental health students

SCHEDULE
On Day 1, the focus will be on theory and practice. The essential CCPT skills, structuring, empathic listening, imaginary play and limit setting, will be taught through the use of lectures, videos, roleplays and individualized, supportive feedback.
On Day 2, the focus will be on role plays of CCPT sessions, understanding themes, recognizing stages of therapy and tracking progress. Difficult types of play will be reviewed. Involving parents will be covered. Lecture, videos and roleplays will be used. Participants are encouraged to bring case material.
TRAINERS
Karen Pernet has been in practice for over 25 years and is a national CCPT and Filial Therapy trainer. She was awarded the 2009 Outstanding Contribution to FT Practice and Training Award. Her trainings have been described as lively, encouraging, responsive to individual needs, informative, interactive and fun. One participant said “I am so glad I took the training…Already there are big changes..clients are sharing more spontaneously about…traumas…I am (again) allowing in the dark play…and the work is fun again.”
Jeannette Harroun MFT, RPT-S is a Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Play Therapist. She has a private practice in Lafayette, CA where she provides psychotherapy and individual consultation and supervision. Her approach to therapy is described as positive, warm and playful. She works with children, teens and parents in addressing a variety of concerns including self-regulation, self-esteem, attachment, tantrums and impulsivity, parenting/co-parenting/blended family issues, anxiety, depression, school and motivational issues, trauma, and divorce. She is currently a collaborative supervisor for the Wright Institute and has been an adjunct faculty member with the University of Phoenix and a workshop provider with John F. Kennedy University.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After the training participants will be able to:
- Summarize the principals of Child Centered Play Therapy (as developed by Virginia Axline)
- Describe what is meant by each of Axline’s 8 principles of CCPT
- List the basic 4 skills of CCPT
- Perform the 4 basic skills of CCPT
- Name 3 types of presenting situations for which Child Centered Play Therapy would be helpful
- Name 1 types of presenting situation for which Child Centered Play Therapy would usually be contraindicated.
- Appropriately handle a wide range of possible situations in play sessions
- Describe the difference between content and themes and how that is useful in reviewing and evaluating play therapy sessions.
- List 2 ways to meaningfully involve parents in the play therapy process

Sierra Institute for Contemporary Gestalt Therapy (Provider #76949) is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFT’S, LCSW’S, LPCC’S AND LEP’S. SICGT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. CANCELLATION POLICY
Full refund if canceled 30 days in advance minus a $50 administrative fee. After that date there will be no refund unless space is filled from the waiting list.
