DESCRIPTION
When parents are integrated into their children’s treatment, play therapy is often faster, more efficient and can have a deeper impact. Integrating parents deepens the family buy in and expands therapy into the home setting by teaching parents essential skills. Bringing parents into play therapy creates opportunities to address intergenerational trauma by replacing trauma based reactions with new, healthier patterns.
This workshop explores three models that have been used for decades to successfully treat children in the family context: Family Play Therapy, Therapy (™) and Filial Therapy. Essential skills from each of the three models will be demonstrated. Case presentations will highlight how the models can be incorporated with non-directive play therapy and with each other to address complex problems.
