Topics include assessment approaches and working with post-traumatic play and dissociation. Participants will be able to identify and gain hands-on experience in using a variety of play/expressive arts interventions that can be used to support client safety, self-regulation and resiliency in multiple environments.

WORK TOWARD BECOMING A REGISTERED PLAY THERAPIST

Workshop will examine the benefits of play and expressive arts therapy in assessing and treating trauma.  Participants will learn the principles of directive and non-directive play therapy and how these modalities fit within trauma informed practice. TIME AND DATE: Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 9:30AM TO 5:00 PM. There will be a one hour lunch break and a 15 minute break in the morning and afternoon.

TARGET AUDIENCE: This course is designed for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, LEPs and pre-licensed associates

PREREQUISITES: None 

TRAINER:  Jeannette Harroun, LMFT, RPT is a Marriage and Family Therapist and Registered Play Therapist. She has a private practice in Lafayette, CA where she provides psychotherapy and individual consultation and supervision. Her approach to therapy is described as positive, warm and playful. She works with children, teens and parents in addressing a variety of concerns including self-regulation, self-esteem, attachment, tantrums and impulsivity, parenting/co-parenting/blended family issues, anxiety, depression, school and motivational issues, trauma, and divorce. She offers supervision and consultation for therapists seeking the Registered Play Therapist designation.  She regularly teaches CEU courses with Growth Through Play Therapy Training Associates as well as other organizations and has been an adjunct faculty member with the University of Phoenix and a workshop provider with John F. Kennedy University.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

After the training participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how trauma affects the brain.
  2. Identify three benefits of using play therapy in treating trauma.
  3. Describe the role and importance of the therapeutic relationship in treating trauma.
  4. Identify the basic principles of directive and non-directive play how each may be used to treat trauma.
  5. Describe use of play therapy to treat post-traumatic play and dissociation.
  6. Identify five play therapy interventions and how they are used in the assessment and treatment of trauma
  7. Incorporate play therapy treatment and interventions into assessment and case treatment plans.

CONTINUING EDUCATION:

This course meets the qualifications for 6 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCC, and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Growth Through Play Therapy is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, 1032322, to sponsor continuing education for LMFT’S, LCSW’S, LPCC’S AND LEP’S. They maintain responsibility for this program/course and its content. 12 CEs-$25 additional charge. Purchase separately.

Growth through Play Therapy is an approved provider for the Association for Play Therapy – APT 09-241. There is no extra charge for APT CEs.

Partial credit cannot be offered.

This workshop and presenter have no conflict of interest in presenting this workshop, nor is there any commercial support.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Full refund if canceled 30 days in advance minus a $50 administrative fee. After that date there will be no refund unless space is filled from the waiting list.  That refund will be minus the $50 admin fee. If the training is cancelled by Growth through Play Therapy due to insufficient enrollment or other unforeseen event, a full refund will be given unless the participant confirms by e-mail that they are registering for another class.
Unfortunately we are unable to reimburse travel expenses, such as airfares or hotels in the event that the training is cancelled.
