Screen Play: Play Therapy Moves On-Line, May 15, 2021—ONLINE

Saturday May 15, 2021-10:00 AM to 5:30 PM – OVER ZOOM

1 hour lunch break and two 15 minute breaks will not be counted toward the 6 CEs awarded

Play therapy is a beneficial and fun approach that supports the ability of children (and often teens) to work through an array of emotional and behavioral challenges.  Play therapy normally takes place in a physical therapeutic space filled with an array of toys, sand and expressive arts materials that support the child or teen’s ability to identify and process feelings as they learn to identify and cope with comfortable feelings like anxiety and anger, problem-solve or socialize more comfortably.

Although teleplay therapy has been offered as a modality since 2014, the COVID-19 pandemic has shifted more therapists from familiar playrooms to on-line sessions.  For many, the shift in format created a variety of new challenges to engaging clients and ways of using play to help them work through the issues that brought them to therapy.  This webinar outlines the requirements for successful and ethical on-line play therapy including identifying benefits and challenges, use of non-directive vs. directive play, inclusion of parents, considerations for culturally sensitive care, effective interventions and the importance of therapist self-awareness and care.  The course outlines and demonstrates a variety of interventions to engage clients and address the concerns that brought them into therapy.  The webinar will be taught using didactic instruction, videos, and on-line play with other participants.
